Kenshin's Lore/Different Takes

"Have you ever wondered what happened before the times of the Rune Wars? The time before the League was even needed? No one knows, not even the Grand Summoners. Either that or they know something that should never surface. Should it be known.... will Valoran be the same?"
- Script from a Scroll found in a Summoner's Study Hall

--Pre-Rune Wars Times, Origin of the Void, Thinning of the Darkin Numbers--
Centuries ago. Before the Rune Wars, there was a time when the Protectorate and the Magelords were not even factions, but blades and scholars united. That was a time of peace long forgotten. Because there was a single child. A seer with the gift of materializing anything he saw in his visions. But this boy was not a normal seer. In fact, his life as one was not one of the respect a seer warranted. But one of torment. Other seers, other children often threw rocks at him, but for some odd reason, none dare to tell what came next. He was often questioned as to why he did these things, and the boy replied with a simple 'It just happened.'

Very little could explain the seer's difficulty in seeing the strange logic in his ability. Things just happening seemed rather odd to everyone around him. While it would be evident that with the passage of time that the seer would eventually experience symptoms that rendered his skin pale, almost perfectly white and his eyes would turn purple with time. Despite all this he never quite stopped doing what he did. As if driven by some strange force. Eventually it would seem as if he'd perished, no trace left behind.

But this wasn't the truth. Worshippers of a race of warriors called the Darkin had spirited him away shortly after he'd been locked up. As for the seer, he had been chained to an obelisk that restrained his power, but barely. Eventually, the visions turned to voices in his head. All of them echoing, "Free us and we will liberate you from your prison..." As if he knew what that meant. None of it made sense. Especially since there were other voices telling him to be strong and do what is just. Madness in him grew as he could not simply decide, the former of the voices cackling in laughter as they had won out, exiling the voices begging for justice. The voices had been shut away in a little portion of the chaos that would eventually be forgotten by the prevailing evil. The evil had effectively torn the seer's soul apart, leaving what seemed to have been a mindless husk that melted onto the obelisk itself, as if bonding with it. This mysterious occurrence left the worshippers to their knees. As if their gods had left a gift for them to admire and treasure. But this was not the intention of the Darkin.

The entire Darkin race had been observing the obelisk for some time. The energies coming from it were far too infectious and some had even turned worshipper to murder. This enraged some Darkin who wanted to keep the worshippers alive to fatten their egos. Those Darkin paid the price for their gluttonous need for the ominous energies rendered them soulless. This prompted a rather quick attempt at a disposal of the obelisk. Especially when vicious creatures started to arise from the bodies that lay around it.

And so, Shurima paid the price. The ultimate price of being razed to the ground. It had not fallen to any of its own kin, it had fallen to its own gods. Its unfortunate fate at the hands of what should have been their savior.

Alas, the tragedy had a prupose. A purpose to dispose of deeds that should never be told of for the ages. The obelisk had been aware of the Darkins' intentions and acted accordingly. It may have been created from madness, fear and even hatred... but it was not a fool. To prevent its own destruction, it used its already massive concentration of power to teleport to an unoccupied plane. There, it would spread its madness, as if becoming the symbiotic conqueror of that realm, to become a realm of madness. Now a landscape of madness-fueled flesh and chaos, the Void came to be. Shards of what seemed to be bones and large obelisks decorate the Void, as if depicting its origin as a tale of greatness, a tale of ascension. But all it would bring forth was monsters of unrivaled destructive urge. Whether to consume, to discover.... none would know any Void born's intention unless they themselves experienced it.

The Handful of Surviving Darkin had discussed this amongst themselves. They would cover up the destruction of Shurima as a disaster while making a name for themselves, killing anyone who ventured close. Their greatest champion, Aatrox would bear witness to the shrinking of the handful to five at the hands of a mysterious knight in glossy black armor with a helm that resembled the head of a wolf and the armor of what is now the armor worn by the Ionian Army. Its blade clad in the Void's essence, a blade ready to smite the Darkin.

"So the deaths of many from the madness of one result in the deaths of the fools who brought said madness upon the innocent soul. May your fate be of equal strife."

With a armor clad hand the mysterious knight sent the essence of the Void into the Darkin, warping their minds to the extent that they would never recall the knight. Aatrox and his four Darkin companions were blown away, given a new purpose. To destroy the evidence of the Void's origin. And by manipulating the outcomes of the Rune Wars and many other wars to come, they laid waste to many a army often by oneself, destroying all that would link the Void to any tale until the coming of Malzahar, who like the Void's host had the gifts of a seer. It was he who would finally relay the existence of the Void to the League of Legends. And any who heard the call of the Void would come to the League of Legends, to discover what sated them most. (Much to the agony of most of the populace that encountered them, that is.)

But what of the knight? None will ever know. Not till their he would descend upon the League. Not until justice is served....

--The Existence of the Zanshin Asura--
An Order of Knights trained in the deadliest of combat that inhabit the Void. Their mission in life is to rid Valoran of any and all threats emerging from the void, be they human or not. Each knight is born with a spirit companion that resembles what their soul embodies. That companion would then become the armor of the Knight who summons it, but for a limited time. When it became time for the Knight to be tested for a title, that knight would fight every other contender in that title's division until the successor was chosen.

As for how they came to be, it was a matter of an accident involving an attempt at using the energy that the corrupting force that is the Void's essence radiates and techmaturgy. Long story short, they made a grave error in attempting to create an energy source that could very well shape the fate of science.

Order. Chaos. Good. Evil. These things mattered greatly to the Order of the Zanshin Asura Knights. The true bringers of balance. Whether anything was to be allowed ascension was up to them. And since they had no place in history, they often struck from the shadows, or within the greatest gatherings of people. Knights of the Shadows, some say. Their blades are said to smite the soul along with the body. Their ways of fighting, unknown to all but them... and some parts of Ionia. Some say that their ways are purely mysterious, and that none can predict their next move nor calculate their military strength. All that is known about them is what lies in legend.

However, due to their varied ways, the Zanshin Knights are seen as mere myths. And since their fighting styles also vary, schools of various martial arts strive to perfect their ways of the assassin.

This led to different titles per representative. Kenshin being the highest rank due to the bearer's school being the strongest. It is said that the bearer of the title Kenshin would be the black wolf that brought about the downfall of evil, and be the hero of justice. At least, that was the legend. This was mostly true. Only difference is that Kouga and his predecessors were notorious for being laid back and oftentimes lazy, but most were trained by hardened swordsmen. Kouga on the other hand was trained in the art of ninjutsu, but also by his father who was a swordsman without equal in the order. Because of his special training course, he adapted a hybrid of ninjutsu and kenjutsu (swordsmanship) to form his own style. Kouga was then the only one who could fight against assassins and fighters alike (at the same time on occasion) and do so rather well. One of his trials would be interrupted when the portal leading from the Void to Valoran was suddenly destroyed without a trace. Kouga's younger brother Taiga was caught in the blast, leaving no trace behind. Without a sound, Kouga attended Taiga's funeral pyre and left. Forever in his mind the memories of his brother would be the motivation for Kouga to start the Trial of Succession for his title. It was a trial in which he had to fight and defeat 10 assassins and knights bearing other titles. As the future successor, Kouga took into consideration both sides of his training and dispatched each challenger quickly, almost killing some of them. It took only a gaze for the Zanshin Council to notice that he had already proven himself long ago. For the armor that encased the successor to the title of Kenshin had already accepted him as its master at birth.

Even though he was still as laid back as ever, Kouga was now the single strongest Zanshin Knight. Respected and in power, he had the portal reconstructed. Even though there was no village to cross to, he knew he had to do something. And thus a messenger from the Council appeared.

It was then time for his departure to Valoran from the Void. Before leaving, he was given two orders: Investigate the destruction and any cover-up, then make his mark on Valoran using any means necessary. When he left the Void, his landing spot wasn't exactly a good one. In fact, he landed right in the middle of an avalanche. Having dug his way out, he eventually came across a path in the snow covered forest despite having been attacked by some vicious wildlife. He then wandered south until he came across a bizarre creature that seemed to be wounded. Feeling a rather strong sense of sympathy toward it, he hoisted the little furball onto his shoulder and found the nearest cave so he could make a camp site out of it. Which he did rather quickly due to the snow picking up. It would be weeks. Then months. Eventually, both he and his newfound companion who he named after his fallen brother would journey south.

It would be a rather confusing journey indeed. Kouga may be the deadliest knight of his order, but he was not immune to getting lost. In fact, he found himself learning Valoranian law in order to understand how things worked in Valoran. His studies caught the attention of the Institute of War, which in turn landed him a rather important job in Valoran's Judicial System. Alongside the Judicator, Kouga was entrusted with the task of condemning the corrupt and evil and ensuring that verdicts are of the just variety.

While everyone saw him as a herald of justice, Kouga still had his mission. As the recent successor and currently the only one in Valoran who knows of the hidden variable behind the destruction of the village that Lee Sin destroyed, he is also watched closely by his current employer considering he is known as the "Telltale Avenger" to some, and the "Dark Wolf of Justice" to others... when he isn't being attacked by Champions of the League because of how often he is in the wrong place at the wrong time.
